Hidden in the serene hills of West Sikkim near the sacred Khecheopalri Lake, the Bajre Dara Trek is a magical 3-day Himalayan journey perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers. The adventure begins from 4th Mile village, about 17 km from Yuksom and Pelling. Walking through beautiful village trails and forests near Lamathang, trekkers reach Bhanjyang to camp under the peaceful mountain sky. The highlight comes the next day as you climb to Bajre Dara Ridge (3,360 m / 11,020 ft). From the top, a breathtaking 360° panorama unfolds with majestic Himalayan peaks like Mount Kanchenjunga, Kabru Peak, Pandim and Jopuno rising above the clouds. “Bajre Dara” in Nepali means “Thunder Ridge,” a place wrapped in local legends where lightning once struck the forest, giving the trail its mystical charm. ✨ Best time: September – June (Oct–Nov & March best) 🥾 Trek distance: ~33 km ⛰ Altitude: 3,360 m A perfect escape into nature—where silence, mountains, and stories of the Himalayas come alive.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Reach Baghdogra (IXB)Airport or Njp and transfer to Yuksom by road.
Distance: 150 km
Duration: 5-6 hours drive
Elevation: 1,780 m (Yuksom)
Reach Baghdogra Airport, or Njp Railway Station where your guide will welcome you. From here a drive of 5-6 hours through eye-popping elated terrain will bring you to Yuksom - the portal of trek. You wind your way through mountain roads, towering trees, terraced fields and small villages. On reaching Yuksom, you’ll check into your stay and get a short briefing about the trek. Here, you’ll have some free time to relax and explore the small town, which is of historical importance as Sikkim’s first capital. Go to bed early so we can start fresh tomorrow.
Day 2: Yuksom to Bhanjyang via (4th Mile).

Duration: 6-7 hours
Elevation: 2,050 metres (Bhanjyang)
Have a healthy breakfast, then you will drive for half and hour to the 4th trekking point at where you commence your trek. The trail begins in the thicket of forest, with oak, rhododendron and pine on either side as you make your ascent. You’ll hike past small streams and waterfalls, and catch occasional views of Mount Kanchenjunga as you ascend.
The trail is a combination of uphill climbs and flat walking, which provides you plenty of time to acclimatise to the altitude. The hike finishes at Bhanjyang, a lovely area where you will have views of the mountains and the valleys. Pitch a tent, and eat a hot meal before you spend the night under the stars.
Day 3: Bhanjyang to Bajre Dara.

Altitude: 2,600 m (Bajre Dara)
You start early for Bajre Dara on the last day of the trek, The trek for today is strenuous, with an ascent along the deep forest of rhododendron and alpine meadows. It's a hard hike but rewarding; you're literally closer to the top with every step! The higher you go, the thinner the vegetation and the more stunning are the views of the Himalayas. On reaching Bajre Dara, we hold up our campsite that provides you with a panoramic view of Mount Kanchenjunga and its surrounding peaks. This is the ideal place for pondering life and taking in the tranquillity of nature. Overnight stay here while absorbing the mesmerising Himalayan beauty.
Day 4: Sunrise view from Bajre Dara & walk down to Lamathang Early in the morning you will hike towards the lovely Bajre Dara viewpoint for sunrise

Duration: 6-7 hours
Elevation: 2,050 m (Lamathang)
Wake up early to catch the sunrise from behind of Kanchenjunga and experience the entire mountain range bathed in golden light! Enjoy the scenery and have a hot breakfast before descending to Lamathang. The return hike is a bit easier, but still follows breathtaking mountain views of the surrounding valleys. As you trek through the forests and meadow, the terrain unfolds to provide stunning views of rural SIKKIM. The trail ultimately reaches Lamathang, a serene village where you’ll camp overnight. The evening breeze is cool, and the environment is peaceful; it’s a perfect place to relax after trekking all day.
Day 5: The Final Push To Khechoperi And The End Of Trek
Distance: 15 km
Duration: 6-7 hours
Elevation: 1,220 m (Khechoperi)
On the last day hike you will climb down to Khechoperi village. The course is a combination of downhill and flat, through lovely forests and some villages. After a couple of hours' walk, you will reach Khechoperi, so beautiful. Khechoperi is famous for the sacred Khechoperi Lake in Sikkim. On exploration of the place, you can have an overnight stay at Khechoperi or take a bus back to NJP or Baghdogra for your onward journey. It’s the end of your trek and all that remains are memories for a lifetime of this very tough and satisfying trek in Hee-Bermiok, Sikkim Himalayas.
